Lady Gaga a.k.a Mother Monster has arrived in South Africa!

SAPS gets rough with the press and Gaga's bodygaurd
By now we are sure that you all know that Lady Gaga has arrived in mama Africa! Gaga or the Mother monster if you prefer, arrived to the delight of hundreds of her little monsters (the name of her fan base), who waited hours for her to arrive at Lanseria airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday night.  However, their dreams of meeting their idol were nearly squashed by an over ambitious member of SAPS (South African Police Services) who tried to get in between one of Gagas’ bodyguards and a member of the press.  Seriously SAPS lets be real everyone knows that we press in South Africa are pretty laid back and chilled, no need to go to extremes!  Gaga was then shepherded to the cars that were waiting for her after the management at the airport felt like the hundreds of supporters waiting for her in the terminal would be classed as a security threat!  Gaga was having none of it and a few minutes later (after the crowds had rushed to the parking lot to catch a glimpse of their favorite super star) she emerged from the car, met her fans,  had the odd photo and signed autographs.

This dude manages to out glamourise the Mother monster
However not everyone in South Africa has been excited about her arrival.  Up until a few hours before her arrival, religious groups all over South Africa were trying to get her concerts banned as they feel “Gaga would be bringing Satanism into South Africa and exposing our youth”. Gaga is known as an ambassador for anti-bullying around the word, with her songs such as “Born this way” encouraging people that no matter how different we are, we are all as important as the next person.   Naturally a few of her songs do include lyrics that not everyone would agree with, but aren’t most international stars surrounded by a bit of controversy these days???

It’s not only her lyrics and outrageous costumes that cause controversy either! Gaga is known as a Diva too!  Besides having a strict menu for every night of the week, some of her demands include: an oxygen tank in her dressing room, 3 fans, a plate of non-smelly, non-sweaty cheese and plenty of honey available at all times.  Perhaps her oddest request however, would be that venues stop serving ice to fans at least 30minutes before she appears on stage!  Why you may ask? Well its simple, she doesn’t want to be thrown with it.

As South Africans we are proud to say welcome Lady Gaga to South Africa during your 323 day tour of the world, its just a pity you are not performing in Durban *sigh*.  You can be sure that something outrageous is sure to happen at her concerts on 30 Nov ,in Johannesburg and on the 3 December, in Cape Town.  Whether you are one of her little monsters or not a fan at all we would love to hear your feelings on her arrival in South Africa. Send us your pics if you were lucky enough to get to see Mama Monster live in South Africa!

Its on! 1D vs The Wanted!...Wait how did the Beliebers get involved?

What started off as "friendly banter" turned into a war of words this past Saturday (Nov 24th) when rumors of a fued between our two favorite boy bands (no guys it's not NSYNC and Backstreet Boys) 1D and The Wanted became fact .

For those of you who are not quite up to speed as yet, let me fill u in.

Dubbed as the “battle of the boy bands” by the Global Grind this Saturday (Nov 24th) ,it seems that 1D's Zayn Malik started this "battle" by referring to The Wanted singer Max George as a “geek” for cosying up to Usher.
Max replied with: 'that's right gorgeous!' before the pair 'joked' about flirting with each other (yes, its true I did get jealous)- and we thought we could start wiping the sweat from our foreheads.

But then Max George then tweeted a pic of himself with the singer Psy, tweeting: “Psy and me getting messy #geekandproud.”

Things got a bit more serious after 1D's Zayn then tweeted: “The first step is totally acceptance. #geekoftheweek. You display just how much of a wannabe you are. : )”

Max then replied:“That’s not very nice, @ZaynMalik. I was just starting to like you and your RnB songs, too.”

Zayn then responded to Max by saying, "I'm not sure why your still talking to me mate, conversation ended when i called you a geek."

Tom Parker of The Wanted went on to say that: “Zayn Malik had his '1 Stripes' knickers in a twist, bro.”
Malik came back with his own Tweet a while later:“Mate, if I had a face like yours, my hair would be the last thing I would worry about. : )”

Coming quick to his band mate's defense, The Wanted singer Tom Parker then responded to Zayn, saying:“Pipe down bad boy.”

Zayn Malik of One Direction later responded to the two The Wanted singers with:“Let’s not even discuss vocal ability, boys. : ). I would love to chat but have to run through rehearsals.”

“Enjoy rehearsals,” said George. “Stay off the bud … It clearly makes you cranky.”

Sources say that this is not the first time that the boy band hotties have had it out, as The Wanted have said that the One Direction band members (particularly Louis Tomlinson) were not very kind.

Tomlinson then said in an interview with a UK magazine:“If you want to create a rivalry, let’s do it.”

Although the feud hasn't seemed to be resolved, Nathan Sykes of The Wanted still seems to be spreading the love by recently saying how he wants to "sort out" the rift between the bands and loving One Direction singer Niall Horan.

With the "battle of the bands" going on, we just wanna give credit where it's due and in this case it goes to the Beliebers who did not get involved and spoke out and said that the Directioners trend of "#TheUNwanted" was just mean! Big ups to the boys of The Wanted. Shows maturity, guys. We identify and respect. Defz boys we can love & respect.

While we all watch this hottie fracas, let us know your thoughts. Are you a Belieber, a Directioner or a part of  #TWFanmily?

MTV Europe Music Awards 2012: Or Was it the American Awards?

The EMA's loved for its craziness, weird awards, and awesome themes. But this year was a lil different: less European, borderline scary (ok so i don't like clowns), and kind of predictable. @CarrieKups gives us her thoughts and the night's biggest winners...

Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber were the night’s biggest winners at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, each scooping three prizes at one of the biggest nights in the pop calendar outside the United States (sigh...how we wish we scored an invite).

The night's biggest winners: Taylor Swift & Justin Bieber
American country singer Swift, who left the Country Music Association awards empty-handed (*gasp*) less than two weeks earlier, picked up the night’s biggest honours for Best Female, Best Live and Best Look (didn’t know they gave an award for this).
"Drei? Drei? I can't believe you gave me three awards," Swift, who was nominated in five categories and attempted a lil bit of German (Hmm is this why it’s called the European Music Awards, our beloved celebs attempting European languages?) Frankly (Haha pun on the FRANKfurt hosting city), we were a lil confused. Why is it mainly the west dominating? Do Europeans prefer North American sounds over home-grown talent? I remember watching the EMA’s years ago and being confused over the artists (cos I didn’t recognize anyone). What happen to that European Music Awards?
T-Swizzle with her EMA Awards
Don’t get me wrong, I love mainstream music but what happen to shining a bit of culture through our music? Europe, a continent rich with its very own culture, showed nothing! Or maybe, I am a lil behind...Somebody please enlighten me! What happen to the proud Europe who chose to teach the world about its culture?
Well, I was glad to see dance sensation Psy with his record-breaking hit "Gangnam Style"(which won Best Video). Now, he is definitely someone educating the world on his culture! He has the whole world singing a song of which they have zero understanding! (Unless you understand Korean, and no the part about sexy ladies does not make it any less confusing ). But I did hear that his next album would have more English songs on it.
So going to attempt the Gangnam dance!
Surprise of the night, Rihanna, who led the nominations with six, but failed to pick up a single award.
 And then there was Bieber...
Justin Beiber #Believe
The Canadian teen heartthrob matched Swift's tally, claiming Best Male for the second year in a row as well as Best Pop and Best World Stage. Pop ‘poppie’, Carly Rae Jepsen went home with two awards for Best Song ("Call Me Maybe") and Best Push (which recognizes up-and-coming talent).
MTV chose a circus theme for this year's awards at the 100-year-old Festhalle venue (not a fan), and Rita Ora opened the show by belting out her No. 1 British hit "R.I.P." from a giant bird cage (which frankly was confusing, but at least she’s European right?)

Rita Ora as Tweety Bird
But all in all, the EMA’s were predictable and served its purpose for passing time. It seems like award shows no longer conjure the excitement they once used to or maybe I’m just getting old...
Despite being billed as the Europe Music Awards, the majority of nominees are traditionally North American, and 2012 was no exception. I guess if a continent got talent, it’s got talent. Maybe a few more Europeans and Africans can start playing around with youtube a lil more. Till then, we shall appreciate our American artists..
Hmmm maybe me and the girls should start a lil youtube channel to showcase our singing talent (could work?)

Let us know what you thought of the EMA’s and who you would have voted for. Till the next post!

Happy Movember from @Fairytales_blog!

It’s that time of the year again, MOVEMBER!  When you see a whole lot of men walking around with way TOO much facial hair.  Not that I mind, men are suppose to look like men, and  not look as if they are trying out products for babies' bottoms.  So brace yourselves ladies. For the next few days, we are going to see men that look as if they are all trying out for the leads in one of the latest cave man movies...

Mmmmm with a face like this, it should be Movemeber time all the time!
In our caveman movie, Frans would be the star. He can rock the facial hair all year around we don’t mind! But jokes aside, just like the hugely popular October Breast Cancer Awareness month (that has just ended btw), Movember means more than just the sales of razors and shaving gels going down.  This is the month that men around the world unite and show support as well as create awareness for cancers that our men get. So ladies don’t bitch if your man wants to grow a moustache for the month you never know, through him showing support for the cause and raising awareness, he may just help save a life.

I’m sure we can all make a small comprise and let the men in our lives sport a moustache for the month, just think in 30 days he will be back to the baby smooth face that you love, and you will be in love with a real life super hero.  Okay maybe calling them super heroes is going a bit far, but hey they are showing support for a great cause!

The problem with this campaign though is that while some men seem to be able to rock the facial hair and impossibly grow even more gorgeous there are those few that come off looking like dirty, creepy hobos!  So how far is too far for some men this Movember?

Choose the style that suits you! No one wants to look like a creep!
Who can say, but remember men while yes we do support you all for taking the initiative and standing together to create awareness, keep that facial hair under control! A little grooming can go a long way.  So whether you are going for the Handle Bars or the Borat Moustache,  the Trucker or even the Major Major moustache:

REMEMBER: keep it neat and stylish and try to make sure that the style you choose at least suits you!

So Tendai Mtawarira (A.K.A BEAST) put down those blades and join your former team mate @RossSkeate (and I’m sure many more) and help create awareness!

Put down the blades Beast an embrace your inner cave man!

Ladies let us know your thoughts on Movember and guys post some of those pics of you sporting the moustaches to us @Fairytales_Blog!  We would love to see some of the best (and worst) of this month.

 HAPPY MOVEMBER ALL!
