Movie Review : "The Impossible" - with East Caost Radio

Darren Maule ... reduced to tears
By now we are sure that you have realized that besides our absolute love for the Sharks another proudly East Coast aspect of our lives that we totally L-O-V-E is East Coast Radio!  Our favourite Dj's being Damon Beard and Darren Maule and of course their teams! (Did you think we would forget you Jason, Samson and co???).  We recently got the opportunity to attend the Exclusive pre-screening of the movie, The Impossible, with the members of the Breakfast Stack and a few other awesome DURBAN peeps.
Damon Beard of the Drive Show

The Impossible"  stars Ewan McGregor, Geraldine Chaplin, Marta Etura, Naomi Watts, Oaklee Pendergast, Ploy Jindachote, Samuel Joslin,  and Tom Holland.  The movie is based on the true life story of a family's fight for survival after the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami that changed the lives of millions.  The movie follows the fight for survival of the Bennet family.  The husband, wife and their 3 small children that are spending their Christmas vacation in the idyllic setting of a luxury Thai resort.  The tsunami hits and we  are thrown into the turmoil the family suffers as the injured Maria (mother) and Lucas (the oldest son) are swept inland away from the father (Henry) and the two youngest sons, Simon and Thomas, left near the resort.  Neither party knows that the others have also survived, yet though out the movie you see how they put their own grief and sadness aside to help others.  Lucas  the eldest son, whilst in hospital with his mother, works to reunite families with lost ones.  The father searches for his wife and son throughout the movie you (the audience)  are left feeling for the family, feeling their emotions of fear, sadness, joy amongst others.
Acting and make up in the movie ... WOW

The make up and special effects of the movie is outstanding.  The acting by all is phenomenal.  truly an inspiring movie.  Although be warned:  tissues are needed as I don't think there was a dry eye in the cinema!  Yes Darren and Samson, we were sitting in the row in front an could hear your manly tears!

A movie worth watching!  Thanks ECR for giving us the chance to see the film first.  Love yous!

Oscar Pistorius Saga: what's facts and what's fiction?

Oscar and Reeva in happy times.
By this morning we are sure that everyone all over the world is familiar with the case against beloved national sporting hero Oscar Pistorius.  South Africans and the world woke up on a day that was meant to be about sharing and spreading the love with the news that Oscar had mistaken his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, as a burglar after it was said she tried to surprise the Olympian with a Valentine's surprise.  Straight away social media started with the did he or didn't he? Was it really a case of mistaken identity?  Was it premeditated?  People all over the world started bringing up cases where the Olympian had lost his temper in the past!  Past interviews where Oscar mentioned the fact that he was an avid shooter and had a 95% accuracy shooting were bought up!  Truthfully we feel that this just a case of people looking for sensation in others lives (no doubt for their own advantage) ...

Sure this is a case where people all over the world would be interested, after all he is the much loved Olympian that overcame all that life threw at him, proving to himself and the world that no matter what our circumstances are in life we can over come anything if we just try!

On the track ... oscar was a true
inspiration to millions
That being said is it really our place to pass judgement on this case?  Would it not be possible to look into our own pasts and perhaps find times when we have lost our temper in public, done things we are not proud of, but does that mean that we are violent, capable of murder?  The answer is no, so why does that not apply to Oscar ?Why does the media and the public feel the need to condemn Oscar before the case even goes to trial?  The answer is simple .... people feel the need to create sensation where perhaps none needs to be made.

Oscar ... taken into police custody
We applaud news agencies that have reported only on the facts and haven't let there emotions rule their words in what is a very emotional time for not only the families and people directly involved as well as the millions of people that looked up to both Reeva and Oscar.  Whilst some have respected the people involved others have not been so kind.  Some very affluent SA stars have made jokes over the shooting, case in point  - Trevor Noah. Yes his job is as a comedian but is it necessary to joke over the death of a young women, especially when South Africa is in the middle of creating awareness over the violence on women and children? TMZ released of video of Oscar whilst on his first visit to LA.  The title of the video ... "Oscar Pistorius ... Creepy Vibes in Los Angeles"  like us, if you actually watch the video you will see that its really just an interview with Oscar in a good mood!  This is just a case of tabloids trying to create sensations.

Not much has actually been confirmed as to what happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.  All that we do know is that Reeva has been killed and that Oscar stands accused of her murder.  We will not help create sensation by reporting anything that we don't know is 100% truth! The shooting happened at 4am in Oscar's Pretoria Estate home.  Neighbours called police after hearing gunshots.  Oscar co operated with the SAPS and was escorted to the closest police station as well as later a near by hospital for blood tests and forensics.  Forensics where at Oscars house till late last night, as well as this morning.  Reeva's agent released a statement this morning that an autopsy was being performed this morning.  Oscar was taken to court this morning for a bail hearing where he broke down in tears when Reeva's name was mentioned   The bail hearing has been postponed till Tuesday.  That is all we will say on the shooting, as it is the only facts we know for sure, an unlike other tabloids and news agent we are not into sensation.

While we don't know did he/didn't he, its important to remember that more than sensation a life was lost!  Stop creating cheap sensation and rather respect the life of Reeva Steenkamp - a child of God now safely in His arms.  Before you spread any inaccurate stories, stop and remember the loss of the Steenkamp family.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to both the Steenkamp and Pistorius families. #RIPReeva.  A beautiful angel taken too soon!

Let us know your feelings on how media creates sensation to sell stories?

Our Charity for 2013 - LIV Village

rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader, and release a star.

Tich and Joan Smith
LIV founders.
Thanks to The Sharks and Top Billing (after a segment on the village and Pat Lambie last year) we here at Fairytales and Stalkers found a charity that we truly believe in!  The LIV village in Verulam, Durban is a place that has a vision, to look after the vulnerable children of South Africa.  Founded by Tich Smith and his wife Joan, their vision was to build 10 000 villages all over that would positively impact the lives of 500 orphans in each village! Through these villages 5 million orphans would be raised "the right way".  The children would be "rescued, raised and rebuilt to become future leaders impacting the continent of Africa, reaching out to other orphans".  Tich and Joan believe that the church is the answer to the growing problem of orphans in South Africa, Africa and the world!  We too share their beliefs and this is why we have chosen the LIV village to be our charity for 2013.  Through our blog we hope to raise awareness to our followers, readers, families and friends about this wonderful job that Tich and Joan are doing in Verulam. (Too read more on the vision Tich has read HERE)

Future leaders hitting the books!
An aerial view of the village.
Not only does the village boast homes for the vulnerable children that need them with house mothers to love and care for each child but the village also boasts a school and Church, two of the main things a child needs if they wish to succeed in life.

Injured SHARKS need TLC!

No matter what happens Plum
REMEMBER Keegs will return as CAPTAIN
The 2013 Rugby season finally kicked off for us avid rugby supporters here in South Africa, with warm up games before the start of the Super Rugby next week!  However after last Fridays (8 Feb 2013) game even though the Sharks dominated the game scoring 11 tries and ending the game on 71-8, the celebration were cut short when it was stated that both Keegan Daniel A.K.A Captain Awesomeness and Tim Whitehead had been injured and would likely miss the first few games of the Super Rugby tournament.  Whilst social media as well as online media reports that Tim suffered a broken arm, which would cause him to miss at least 6 weeks of rugby, the reports aren't looking as good for Sharks Captain Keegan Daniel.  Hes reported to have suffered an MCL injury, he to could miss 6 weeks or the entire season depending on the severity of the injury.
Keegan Daniel needing a little TLC,
 with suspected MCL injury

Whilst Tim Whitehead has kept mum about his injury, Keegan has stated on both Twitter and Facebook that he "took a slight knock" and that "assessment are to follow" as well as that he woke up on Saturday feeling "really blessed but with a slightly sore knee".   Either Keegs is one tough good looking man, his knees not as bad as reports claim or he's on some really strong painkillers.  Newspapers have reported that Keegs will be having a MRI today to determine the severity of the injury.  All we can do as his supporters is hope and pray all goes well and that we see him soon back in action leading the Sharks to victory.  After all this is the year when he's meant to quiet rugby critics and lead the Sharks to victory in the Super Rugby and Currie Cup tournaments!  We were also hoping that we would get to see both our boys side by side in the Green and Gold this year!
Where was Jen Li when Timmy needed
TLC for his broken arm Friday night?

Who volunteers to give Eben all the
TLC he needs whilst he's off???
The Sharks were not the only team to loose players during the warm up games this week! Eben Etzebeth of the Stormers has been ruled out for 6-8 weeks after injuring his ankle.  These injuries so early in the year make us wonder if the warm up games prior to the start of SR are really necessary, we've lost two of our best players (not to mention captain) before SR even kicked off!  We may be being a little biased because we LOVE Keegs and Timmy but we think they are the best in their relative positions in the Sharks team!

All we can do is pray that Keeg's MRI reveals nothing to serious and that the boys are back on the feild playing side-by-side soon!  One things for sure, they need some TLC and we know just the 2 girls that are willing to give it to them!  Feel free to leave your messages of support for the boys as well as feedback here!

*Updates on injuries to follow soon*
*Love&Peace*
