The movie is based on the true life story of a family's fight for survival after the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami that changed the lives of millions. The movie follows the fight for survival of the Bennet family. The husband, wife and their 3 small children that are spending their Christmas vacation in the idyllic setting of a luxury Thai resort. The tsunami hits and we are thrown into the turmoil the family suffers as the injured Maria (mother) and Lucas (the oldest son) are swept inland away from the father (Henry) and the two youngest sons, Simon and Thomas, left near the resort. Neither party knows that the others have also survived, yet though out the movie you see how they put their own grief and sadness aside to help others. Lucas the eldest son, whilst in hospital with his mother, works to reunite families with lost ones. The father searches for his wife and son throughout the movie you (the audience) are left feeling for the family, feeling their emotions of fear, sadness, joy amongst others.
