Oscar Pistorius Saga: what's facts and what's fiction?

Oscar and Reeva in happy times.
By this morning we are sure that everyone all over the world is familiar with the case against beloved national sporting hero Oscar Pistorius.  South Africans and the world woke up on a day that was meant to be about sharing and spreading the love with the news that Oscar had mistaken his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, as a burglar after it was said she tried to surprise the Olympian with a Valentine's surprise.  Straight away social media started with the did he or didn't he? Was it really a case of mistaken identity?  Was it premeditated?  People all over the world started bringing up cases where the Olympian had lost his temper in the past!  Past interviews where Oscar mentioned the fact that he was an avid shooter and had a 95% accuracy shooting were bought up!  Truthfully we feel that this just a case of people looking for sensation in others lives (no doubt for their own advantage) ...

Sure this is a case where people all over the world would be interested, after all he is the much loved Olympian that overcame all that life threw at him, proving to himself and the world that no matter what our circumstances are in life we can over come anything if we just try!

On the track ... oscar was a true
inspiration to millions
That being said is it really our place to pass judgement on this case?  Would it not be possible to look into our own pasts and perhaps find times when we have lost our temper in public, done things we are not proud of, but does that mean that we are violent, capable of murder?  The answer is no, so why does that not apply to Oscar ?Why does the media and the public feel the need to condemn Oscar before the case even goes to trial?  The answer is simple .... people feel the need to create sensation where perhaps none needs to be made.

Oscar ... taken into police custody
We applaud news agencies that have reported only on the facts and haven't let there emotions rule their words in what is a very emotional time for not only the families and people directly involved as well as the millions of people that looked up to both Reeva and Oscar.  Whilst some have respected the people involved others have not been so kind.  Some very affluent SA stars have made jokes over the shooting, case in point  - Trevor Noah. Yes his job is as a comedian but is it necessary to joke over the death of a young women, especially when South Africa is in the middle of creating awareness over the violence on women and children? TMZ released of video of Oscar whilst on his first visit to LA.  The title of the video ... "Oscar Pistorius ... Creepy Vibes in Los Angeles"  like us, if you actually watch the video you will see that its really just an interview with Oscar in a good mood!  This is just a case of tabloids trying to create sensations.

Not much has actually been confirmed as to what happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.  All that we do know is that Reeva has been killed and that Oscar stands accused of her murder.  We will not help create sensation by reporting anything that we don't know is 100% truth! The shooting happened at 4am in Oscar's Pretoria Estate home.  Neighbours called police after hearing gunshots.  Oscar co operated with the SAPS and was escorted to the closest police station as well as later a near by hospital for blood tests and forensics.  Forensics where at Oscars house till late last night, as well as this morning.  Reeva's agent released a statement this morning that an autopsy was being performed this morning.  Oscar was taken to court this morning for a bail hearing where he broke down in tears when Reeva's name was mentioned   The bail hearing has been postponed till Tuesday.  That is all we will say on the shooting, as it is the only facts we know for sure, an unlike other tabloids and news agent we are not into sensation.

While we don't know did he/didn't he, its important to remember that more than sensation a life was lost!  Stop creating cheap sensation and rather respect the life of Reeva Steenkamp - a child of God now safely in His arms.  Before you spread any inaccurate stories, stop and remember the loss of the Steenkamp family.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to both the Steenkamp and Pistorius families. #RIPReeva.  A beautiful angel taken too soon!

Let us know your feelings on how media creates sensation to sell stories?
